Caffe Dante Replacement Claims History of 'Serving New Yorkers Since 1915'

It appears that the new owner of the space that once held 100-year-old Caffe Dante is using the shuttered restaurant's history to market the new venture.

A newly-created Instagram account for an "aperitivo bar" named Dante features photos of the now-closed Italian restaurant and claims they've been "proudly serving New Yorkers since 1915."

Caffe Dante closed earlier this year after 100 years on MacDougal Street, and records showed that the new owner, former AvroKO executive Linden Pride, planned to open a trendy "small plates" restaurant named Dante.

Pride directed inquiries about the restaurant on Wednesday to a public relations representative, who declined to answer any questions. A representative of the restaurant reportedly told Eater that the concept has changed "somewhat."

The website and Instagram and Facebook accounts for the new eatery prominently feature photos of the old owner, Mario Flotta, and scenes from the restaurant in the 1980s.

A representative for the restaurant declined to say whether or to what extent the Flotta family is involved in the new operation.
