MEATPACKING DISTRICT — Nerd alert! Google will host its second Geek Street Fair Thursday, taking over Gansevoort Plaza for a kid-friendly extravaganza of science and tech.
“Think traditional street fair, but replace funnel cakes and I HEART NY shirts with virtual games, robotics and electronic tinkering,” the company said in a statement.
The fair runs from noon to 6 p.m. at Ninth Avenue and Gansevoort Street, near Google's Chelsea headquarters, on May 28. The 2013 incarnation featured a robot who could solve a Rubik’s cube, virtual skee ball and many beach balls.
Admission is free and open to all. Free snacks will be provided by local restaurants Bill's Burgers, Lov Organic, Serafina and Spice Market, a Google spokesman said.
Sen. Chuck Schumer will speak at the fair at 2:30 p.m. Groups from Liberty Science Center, Cooper Union and the Museum of Mathematics will run booths, among others.
