89-Year-Old Man Fatally Struck in UES Crosswalk, NYPD Says

UPPER EAST SIDE — An 89-year-old man was fatally struck by a car in an Upper East Side crosswalk just three blocks from his home Thursday night, police said.

John Torson was crossing north over East 61st Street at First Avenue about 7:19 p.m. when a 56-year-old woman in a Lexus pulled left onto 61st and struck him, NYPD officials said.

Torson, who lived nearby on 63rd Street, was pronounced dead at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell hospital, police said.

The driver, whose name was not released, was not immediately arrested, officials said.
