MIDTOWN — A Knicks fan who pleaded guilty to attacking a gay couple in 2013 got a sentence of two years' probation, according to court filings.
Martin Martinez was among a group of eight Knicks fans who approached Nick Porto and Kevin Atkins on Eighth Avenue as they walked arm-in-arm. The group hurled homophobic slurs at them and beat them, breaking Porto's nose and Atkins' wrist, police said.
Martinez, who was 25 at the time of the attack, pleaded guilty to aggravated harassment in the second degree, a hate crime, the Manhattan district attorney’s office said.
Porto was upset that Martinez was the only assailant charged.
"I was beaten in the street by several guys, all of whom the police have identified," he said. "Only one of them was arrested and charged because I couldn't specifically point out which one punched me, which one kicked me, and which one dragged me out behind a car and held me down."
But he said he did not want to see Martinez in jail.
"Now I'm not saying he should spend time in the already overpopulated prison system, but he should be required to undergo tolerance training in his two years on probation," Porto said.
Atkins and Martinez could not be reached for comment.
