DUMBO — A series of giant sprinklers designed to look like the walls of rooms and a labyrinth of mirrors are just some of the interactive installations coming to Brooklyn Bridge Park this spring.

Danish artist Jeppe Hein designed his exhibit, "Please Touch the Art" opening May 17, to offer visitors unique experiences throughout the park, including the Bridge View Lawn and the Pier 3 Greenway Terrace, organizers said.

In a display called "Appearing Rooms," water jets in the ground shoot water upward to create walls along a grid, making square "rooms" appear and disappear while participants run through them.

"Mirror Labyrinth" features rows of arched mirrors, letting visitors walk through while watching their reflections multiply.

The exhibit will also include 16 interactive benches, called "Modified Social Benches," throughout the park. The unusual seats come in various shapes and colors, and some are big enough to climb, the organizer said.

They "peak, twist and bend in response to the landscape and environment of the park," Hein, the artist, said.

“Imaginative, whimsical, irreverent, and emotionally resonant, Jeppe Hein turns familiar expectations of works of art on their head," said Nicholas Baume, Public Art Fund Director and curator of the exhibit in a statement.

"Instead of the respectful distance demanded in museums, Hein’s work invites participation,” he said.

"Please Touch the Art" will be displayed in the park from May 17, 2015 to April 17, 2016.
