Teen Opens Fire on East Village Crowd, Police Say

MANHATTAN — A 16-year-old opened fire on a group of people outside the Riis Houses in the East Village Monday afternoon, police said.

Frank Maldonado didn't hit anyone when he fired several shots toward the crowd outside 178 Avenue D, near East 12th Street, about 2 p.m., NYPD officials said.

Maldonado fled and remained at large Thursday morning, police said.

It wasn't immediately clear what sparked the shooting.
