HUNTERS POINT — The Long Island City waterfront is getting wired.

Wi-Fi is coming to Hunters Point South Park this spring, according to the Parks Department, as part of a $10 million investment to connect parks and other public spaces across the five boroughs.

Installation will begin next month, with the service expected to be available later this spring, according to a Parks Department spokeswoman. The Queens Tribune first reported the news.

Subscribers to Time Warner Cable and Cablevision’s Optimum Online will be able to access the wireless for free, while other parkgoers can get three free 10-minute sessions a month, or pay 99 cents for a day pass.

"We've been pushing this for a long time," said Rob Basch, president of the Hunters Point Parks Conservancy.

Attendance to the already-popular waterfront park is expected to increase soon, as two new residential buildings are opening this spring next to the green space, the first phase of the massive Hunters Point South housing complex.

"It would be kind of crazy not to have Wi-Fi there," Basch said.

Hunters Point South Park opened on the waterfront in 2013 and includes a children's playground, a dog run, basketball courts and a garden built around railroad tracks.

An additional five acres of park space is planned for the site as part of the second phase of development at Hunters Point South, according to the city
