CHELSEA — City Councilman Corey Johnson was ticketed Wednesday for moving between subway cars, according to the NYPD.
Johnson, who represents Chelsea, Hell's Kitchen, the West Village and parts of Midtown as the councilman for District 3, was riding an uptown C train between 14th and 23rd streets when officers saw him moving through multiple cars, authorities said.
He was stopped, gave police identification and was issued a summons for the violation, according to NYPD.
Johnson was "making a big deal of it," said a source who spoke to the New York Daily News, which first reported the ticket.
"This is what's wrong with broken windows," Johnson said, according to the News, apparently referring to the NYPD's strategy of targeting low-level crimes. Johnson "pulled out his cell and started making calls," according to the News.
Johnson's office said he was cooperative with police and paid the $75 summons Thursday morning. His office would not say why he was walking between the cars.
“The Council Member has the utmost respect for the men and women of the NYPD and looks forward to a continued partnership with them,” Erik Bottcher, Johnson’s chief of staff, said in a statement.
