MIDTOWN — Spring may be only three weeks away, but it’s still nowhere in sight.
The city is expected to see up to 3 inches of snow Tuesday as the latest storm hits, starting about 3 p.m. and carrying on into the evening. It will then change to a combination of freezing-rain and sleet about 10 p.m., forecasters said.
The Department of Sanitation has issued a snow alert beginning at 2 p.m. Tuesday and is deploying 500 salt spreaders to treat highways, bus routes and school streets.
Central Park has been pounded with 33.2 inches of snow so far this winter, compared to 21.7 inches on average, according to the National Weather Service.
Tuesday's wintry mix is expected to turn to rain early Wednesday and linger until 9 a.m. as the high reaches a seemingly balmy 44 degrees, forecasters said.
But the warm temperatures shouldn’t last for long.
A rain-sleet mix is in the forecast for Wednesday night as temperatures drop into the mid-20s. Thursday could see another 2 to 4 inches of snow by noon, forecasters said.
