SUNNYSIDE — An local arts organization will hold a fundraiser Tuesday, auctioning off works left to the group by Luke Adams, a local leader and Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce member who died last fall.

The “Irish Eyes,” auction will take place at Murphy’s Lobster Grill and Bar at 5:30 p.m., and will include a number of bronze sculptures, china and other items that Adams left to the group, SunnysideArtists, which he helped found, according to friend Pat Dorfman.

Adams was a folk art and memorabilia collector, Dorfman said. The proceeds from the auction will go towards two upcoming art shows that SunnysideArtists is hosting.

Auction-goers will be able to dine on dishes like lobster mac and cheese while bidding on the works, which will include Jeanne Rynhart sculptures, Belleek and Royal Tara Irish china, as well as folk art like tapestries and mementos from around the world that belonged to Adams, who had traveled extensively.

Adams died in November at the age of 76, according to a press release from Congressman Joe Crowley and an obituary penned by Dorfman.

He had been a member of the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce — serving at one time as president, executive director and marketing director — as well as the Sunnyside/Woodside Lions Club.

Adams was also among those who created the well-known Sunnyside Arch on 46th Street, according to his obituary. An annual community service award, "The Luke Adams Sunnysider of the Year," is named after him.

The SunnysideArtists auction will take place Tuesday, Feb. 24 from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at Murphy's Lobster Grill and Bar at 48-20 Skillman Ave. Cover is $25 at the door, or $12 for kids.
