CROWN HEIGHTS — The team behind Franklin Avenue coffee spot Breukelen Coffee House is expanding its business to Nostrand Avenue this spring with Breukelen Brasserie, a “small-plate” French restaurant, bar and cafe.

The new eatery’s owners hope to open by April 1, said co-owner Frank Warren and chef Jonathan Boe, with a menu that will include “French-inspired” dishes like filet mignon and duck confit served as small plates, all priced under $10.

“Everyone’s broke,” Boe said, alluding to rising rent in his neighborhood of many years. “We want a place where everyone can come and kind of have a nice, sit-down dining experience with a full bar and coffee and food, but still not break the budget."

“We’d rather [serve] a lot of people at a lower price than just a few people at a higher price,” he added.

The restaurant, located at the corner of Prospect Place and Nostrand Avenue, will open at 7 a.m. seven days a week with a breakfast menu and coffee service, with the same sit-and-stay atmosphere as the Franklin Avenue location, Warren said. In the evenings, the restaurant will switch to a dinner menu, closing around midnight.

“We’ll be very coffee-heavy here, but then with the liquor and the food,” said Warren, who opened Breukelen Coffee House in 2009. “I felt like it was the right thing for this part of the neighborhood especially.”

He and his business partner, Jason Morgan, began work on the restaurant in November, applying for a full liquor license, which the State Liquor Authority granted on Jan. 5 according to records.

“I just want people to feel at home, just feel the cool vibe and enjoy the space because at the end of the day, this is for them,” he said.

Breukelen Brasserie is located at 710 Nostrand Ave.
