QUEENS — A man was shot in the head in Woodhaven about noon Friday morning as city officials boasted 11 murder-free days, the longest in modern New York City history, sources said.

The 28-year-old man, whose name was not immediately released, was shot at 11:52 a.m. outside his 89th Street home, near Atlantic Avenue, sources said.

He was listed in critical condition at Jamaica Hospital, an FDNY spokesman said.

Two suspects fled in a Mercedes-Benz, sources said.

Investigators do not know why the victim was shot and have not identified the suspects, sources said.

The Friday shooting came as city officials were celebrating 11 days with no murders, a record for the city, according to police officials.

"This extraordinary streak of safety over the past several days is testament to the hard work of the men and women of the NYPD, and further evidence that New York City is the safest big city in America," Mayor Bill de Blasio said Friday morning before the shooting.

"Our administration is committed to keeping crime at historically low levels, building stronger relationships between police and communities across our city, and strengthening support for our officers," the mayor added.
