EMERSON HILL — Borough President James Oddo is promoting heart health for Staten Island women.

On Feb. 23, Oddo will host an event that focuses on living healthier lifestyles and for women to learn more about the risk factors of heart disease, the number one killer of women in the country.

"Many health issues like heart disease can be prevented by living a healthier lifestyle," Oddo said in a statement.

"My hope is for Staten Islanders to learn more about the risk factors for these issues and take control of their health.”

Oddo partnered with Staten Island University Hospital, Richmond University Medical Center, the Jewish Community Center, the Staten Island Heart Society and the American Heart Association for the event which will feature pilates, chair yoga, healthy cooking demos, blood pressure and body mass index screenings, CPR and a $5 healthy lunch, Oddo said.

The event will also have talks by cardiologist Dr. Samala Swamy on heart health and cardiology patient Sandy Saccone on her experience with heart disease, Oddo said.

The free Women's Health Forum will be on Feb. 23 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the JCC of Staten Island on 1466 Manor Road.  To pre-register for seats, call Diane Marciuliano at 718-816-2246 or email her at DMarciuliano@statenislandusa.com with the subject line “Women’s Health Forum.”
