MANHATTAN — Mayor Bill de Blasio put his acting skills to the test Tuesday when he staged a dramatic reading of an article from satirical news outlet The Onion mocking his warning about this week's blizzard.

The short piece, titled "NYC Mayor: ‘Reconcile Yourselves With Your God, For All Will Perish In The Tempest,'" quotes the mayor as saying: "The furious hoarfrost bearing down upon us knows neither mercy nor reason, and all within the five boroughs will perish, cowering in their brittle dwelling.”

"I have a statement to start with," de Blasio told a room full of reporters who had gathered at City Hall Tuesday to ask him questions. "Tell me when you’re ready. Everybody good? Everybody good? OK, I’m going to do a dramatic reading of The Onion."

After concluding his recitation of the article, the mayor added, "It’s so brilliant, I had to do a reading of it."

The storm largely fell short of what officials had expected and did not result in any serious injuries or deaths in the five boroughs. De Blasio had issued stern warnings to the city beforehand, shutting down all roads to traffic and threatening to arrest those who did not comply with the travel ban.
