QUEENSBRIDGE — A CUNY tutor was struck and killed by a private sanitation truck while riding his bicycle in Long Island City Saturday, according to the NYPD.

Hoyt Jacobs, 36, of Brooklyn, was fatally struck at 41st Avenue and Vernon Boulevard around 7:15 p.m., police said.

The driver of the truck was heading north on Vernon Boulevard and turned right onto 41st Avenue, striking Jacobs, according to police. The driver remained at the scene and there have been no arrests, police said.

Jacobs was a reading and writing tutor at the New York City College of Technology, a representative for the school said. He worked in the SEEK program, which provides academic support services to students, according to its website.

"We are shocked and saddened by the untimely death of Hoyt Jacobs," the college said in a statement. "He was well-liked by his students and was truly dedicated to their academic progress; he will be missed. We extend our deepest condolences to the Jacobs family."
