JACKSON HEIGHTS — The former White Castle regional office is set to be knocked down to satisfy a craving for residential real estate, according to the property's sellers.
A developer purchased the space on 34th Avenue and 69th Street for more than $5 million in mid-November and will likely build residential units, according to the brokers from Greiner-Maltz who sold the property.
The buyer, Nakorn Realty LLC, is a Woodside-based company formed in 2013 with ties to the neighborhood, according to Constantine Alafoyiannis, a broker from Greiner-Maltz.
“It's a local entity that bought it — somebody that's been in the neighborhood for many years and in tune with the neighborhood,” he said.
"It would be rebuilt into a higher and better use than what is there now."
The building may also include ground-floor commercial use, Alafoyiannis said.
Representatives from Nakorn Realty LLC could not be reached for comment.
It’s not clear how big the residential building will be, or when demolition on the structure — built in the 1950s — will begin.
The large space, near the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, had become unnecessary in changing times that allows most employees to work remotely, White Castle's vice president of shareholder relations told DNAinfo New York in October.
"Our managers and leaders have everything they need on an iPad," he said.
The neighborhood's closest White Castle restaurant is on Northern Boulevard and 88th Street.
