CROWN HEIGHTS — How many rabbis does it take to make the world’s biggest selfie?
More than 2,000, according to the organizers of this weekend’s International Conference of Chabad-Lubavitch Emissaries, the annual gathering of Lubavitcher rabbis in Crown Heights.
For years, attendees of the conference have taken a “class photo” in front of the Chabad-Lubavitch headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway, posing for a shot that includes thousands of people. But this year, the group added a less traditional portrait, taking a selfie of the group using a wide-angle lens and a several-foot-long “selfie stick” held by two men at the front of the group.
The selfie-takers are claiming the resulting photo, which shows approximately 2,000 rabbis standing on risers in front of the famous Eastern Parkway building, is the biggest selfie in the world. But Guinness World Records hasn’t weighed in yet; the book of records has categories for “Most Selfies Taken in One Hour” and “Largest Online Photo Album of Selfies,” but no category for the most people in a selfie at one time.
Last week, Microsoft claimed to have the selfie record with its photo of about 1,100 people in Bangladesh.
