QUEENS — The NYPD officer who was hit in the head with a hatchet during what police said was a terrorist attack was moved out of Jamaica Hospital to a rehab center Wednesday afternoon.
Officer Kenneth Healey, 25, was taken to a rehabilitation center in Nassau County and is "expected to make a full recovery," police sources said, although "he has a long road ahead of him."
Healey had just posed for a photo with three other rookie officers on Jamaica Avenue last Thursday when he was hit in the head with a hatchet by Zale Thompson, who police said was inspired by Islamic terror groups.
Healey was taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition, police said.
Thompson, 32, of Queens Village, also hit another police officer in the arm, before being shot to death.
Investigators said that Thompson made a number of statements on his social media pages that police officials described as "anti-government, anti-Western and, in some cases, anti-white."
