MANHATTAN — Two straphangers were attacked by a group of knife-wielding men and women on an uptown 4 train early Sunday morning, police said.

The men, who are 20 and 23, were aboard the train as it approached the 96th Street station about 3:30 a.m. when they got into a verbal dispute with two men and four women, according to the NYPD.

The fight, which was caught on cellphone video released by police, quickly turned violent as the attackers slashed the 20-year-old across the face with a knife and punched and kicked the other man before running off the train, police said.

Both victims were taken to St. Luke's hospital where the 20-year-old received stitches. The other man refused medical attention, officials said.

The suspects were described as between the ages of 16 and 23, police said.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477).
