JACKSON HEIGHTS — More than 100 feet of bland concrete barriers will be brightened up with a design inspired by a game of "pick-up sticks."
Volunteers will paint the barriers on 37th Avenue at 69th Street on Oct. 3 as part of the Department of Transportation's Barrier Beautification program, which has spruced up dozens of concrete blocks across the city since 2008.
Artist Eirini Linardaki's design features blue, yellow and red sticks, which replicate the old-timey children's game.
She chose the game as inspiration in the hopes to have the barriers "act as an illustration of the game, as a colorful abstraction, and as a New York City grid," according to the DOT.
The project begins at 10 a.m. and finishes up at 3 p.m.
