Erasmus High School to Host a Free Neil Diamond Concert Tonight

EAST FLATBUSH — Neil Diamond will perform a free homecoming concert at his alma mater Erasmus Hall High School Monday night.

The Grammy award-winning singer of Cracklin’ Rosie, Song Sung Blue, Sweet Caroline and dozens of other chart-toppers announced the performance by posting a flyer on his Twitter and Facebook page on Monday morning.

Hundreds of fans reacted to the news on the artist's Facebook page.

"Would love to have attend such a great intimate concert this new CD and songs are do awesome," fan Barbara Cummiskey said.

"Shay, I got engaged at one of his concerts 40 years ago. This would make a nice gift!!" said Barbara Heimbuch Jenkins.

Free tickets will be made available at the venue, located on 911 Flatbush Ave., starting at 3 p.m., according to the flyer. There will be only one ticket per person (non-transferable) and tickets will be distributed on a first come first served basis, the flyer read. Diamond asked fans not to line up prior to 3 p.m. The venue's doors will open at 5 p.m.

Diamond, a Brooklyn-native, "attended Erasmus in the late '50s, but transferred before graduating," according to IMDB.com and Erasmus Hall High School alumni association website.

Some fans have already secured ticket for tonight's show.

On Sept. 25, the singer, who became a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011, posted a link on his Facebook page encouraging fans to change their hometown on Facebook to Melody Road — the name of his new album — in order to win tickets for tonight’s “secret” show. Diamond, just announced the lucky winners on his page.

Melody Road, which features 12 songs, is set to be released Oct. 21, but pre-order sales began on Sept. 9 on Amazon.com, according to the singer's website.
