WEST BRIGHTON — A man found a wallet in a Staten Island department store then used the cards inside to make more than $1,000 in purchases around the borough last month, police said.

On July 9, a man lost his wallet inside the Telco Store at 1377 Forest Ave. around 5:30 p.m., according to the NYPD.

The victim later found out that a suspect picked up the wallet and used the debit and credit cards inside to make purchases in various stores around the borough, including the Lowe's at 2171 Forest Ave., that night and the next day, police said.

The suspect was described by police as having a slim build, black hair and facial hair.

Police did not say why they waited a month to release information or a photo of the suspect. No one answered the phone at the department store.

Anyone with information in regards is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
