MANHATTAN — J&R Music and Computer World is rebooting this fall.

The longtime downtown Manhattan music and electronics megastore, which shuttered its doors back in April, is opening a mini-store in Century 21’s flagship Financial District location, Jason Friedman, son of J&R founders and the company’s executive vice president, tweeted Wednesday afternoon.

The 1,500-foot “J&R Express Boutique,” which will sell audio and video hardware, computers, music, movies and other assorted electronics, will open within the bustling discount retailer in October, Billboard reported. The original store, located across from City Hall Park, opened as a record store in 1971, eventually taking over the entire Park Row city block.

“While we are redeveloping the block and planning the future of Park Row we wanted to answer the demand and outcry of support for J&R to remain a fixture of Lower Manhattan," co-owner Rachel Friedman said in April.

The revamped flagship store is expected to reopen sometime in 2015.
