CARROLL GARDENS — An all-natural baby boutique from San Francisco is opening its first Brooklyn outpost, giving parents a new place to shop for organic and non-toxic products.
Sprout San Francisco will open its first location in the borough at 376 Court St. near President Street in September, said Katina Kontos, the company's East Coast manager.
The company was founded by Suzanne Price, a former senior equity research analyst at a West Coast investment bank, who started Sprout as a one-stop shop that “carried all natural baby products and employed knowledgeable sales people,” according to the company website.
Sprout’s “criteria” for choosing products, each of which also has Price’s stamp of approval, includes using natural and organic materials when possible, avoiding toxic chemicals but also staying “functional and stylish at the same time,” according to Kontos and the website.
From toys and clothes to bathing supplies and bedding, Sprout features a wide range of products like onesies that use organic cotton and non-toxic dyes, stuffed toys with hypo-allergenic fillings, and handpicked strollers that adhere to the company’s safety standards.
For parents who are new to Sprout’s mission, the shop’s sales associates are trained to educate customers on their specialty products, reps said.
“It can definitely be overwhelming for the customer,” said Kontos, who added that many parents start with one or two natural products, like a mattress or car seat, before going all the way.
“We are here to walk them through the whole process.”
The company has one other New York City boutique, on the Upper East Side, and Carroll Gardens seemed like the “perfect place” for their first in Brooklyn, Kontos added.
“You can’t really walk down the street without seeing children in strollers,” she said.
