Car Fire Breaks Out in Tunnel Connecting to George Washington Bridge: FDNY

MANHATTAN — A car burst into flames in a Washington Heights tunnel at the foot of the George Washington Bridge, filling the roadway with smoke, officials and witnesses said.

Flames took over the car about 1:30 p.m. on the lower level of the Trans-Manhattan Expressway, the FDNY said.

No injuries were reported and the FDNY cleared the scene about 2:15 p.m., a spokeswoman said.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
