Man Punches Store Employee Who Tried to Stop Him Stealing Backpacks

STATEN ISLAND — A man punched a 60-year-old JC Penney employee in the face for trying to stop him making off with stolen backpacks, police said.

The man, who police say is about 20-years-old, took five backpacks from the store at 140 Marsh Ave. and tried to walk out without paying at about 2 p.m. on August 4, police said.

When the employee tried to stop him from leaving, the man attacked him, police said.

The victim suffered bruises and cuts to the head, police said.

The man, described as being 5-foot-8-inches tall, was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and camouflage pants.
