SOUTH STREET SEAPORT — A man tried to steal nearly $1,700 worth of Abercrombie & Fitch’s “signature” scent last week, police said.

Edwin Morales, 45, grabbed 25 bottles of Fierce cologne — the musky fragrance that’s pumped through each of the clothing chain’s stores — from the 199 Water St. location on July 12 at about 4 p.m., police said.

Morales stuffed the bottles — which ranged in price from $54 to $118, totaling $1,698 — into his bag and tried to flee, but store security managed to stop him on the way out, police said.

Police arrested Morales and he was charged with one count of fourth-degree grand larceny and one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, according to the criminal complaint from the Manhattan District Attorney's office.

Morales was sentenced to nine months in jail, prosecutors said.

Information about Morales's attorney was not immediately available.

Abercrombie & Fitch did not immediately return a request for comment.
