PROSPECT PARK — A woman who leapt into Prospect Park Lake to save her dog Thursday ended up getting rescued herself, according to the FDNY.

The woman swam 350 feet after her pitbull plunged into the water to chase ducks, witnesses said.

The rescue came a day after another woman was killed as she tried to get her dog from underneath a garbage truck in Chelsea.

“It was crazy. The pitbull went in the lake after the ducks and it wouldn’t come back,” said witness Thomas Aaron, 40.

“The ducks were smarter than the dog. They were swimming in a circle, and the dog couldn’t get them.

“She was calling her dog and yelling at him for about 30 minutes. All of a sudden, she jumped in and swam after it.

"She was stroking like Michael Phelps. She was on a mission to rescue her dog.”

The woman ultimately reached the pitbull and swam to the marsh on Duck Island, Aaron and a Prospect Park Alliance worker said.

Neither the owner nor the dog were hurt, fire officials said.
