KIPS BAY — A man was seriously injured after he was stabbed in the stomach outside Bellevue Hospital Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

The attack took place about 2:30 p.m. at the corner of East 28th Street and First Avenue. The 34-year-old victim was was stabbed twice in the abdomen and slashed in the face, an NYPD spokesman said.

He was transported to the hospital less than a block away where he was in serious but stable condition, an FDNY spokesman said.

Officers arrested a suspect at the scene, the police spokesman said.

It was not immediately clear why he stabbed the victim. The investigation is ongoing, he added.
