BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — An annual LGBT pride festival in Bed-Stuy focused on "challenging hate and police violence" will enter its fourth year in central Brooklyn, organizers announced this week.
The annual Bed-Stuy Pride festival is a celebration of the neighborhood's LGBT community and information exchange for LGBT people of color.
Safe OUTside the System, a program created by the Audre Lorde Project and the event's sponsor, encourages locals and businesses to work together rather than relying on the NYPD, according to the group.
The annual event features vendors, music and food alongside nonprofits and community groups.
Last year's festival also featured a timeline featuring numerous anti-LGBT attacks throughout the years and a "mixtape" that recorded people answering the question, "What does a safe Bed-Stuy look like for you?"
The fourth annual Bed-Stuy Pride will be at Herbert Von King Park at noon on Aug. 3.
