Woman Fights Off Would-Be Rapist in Elmhurst, NYPD Says

QUEENS — A 61-year-old woman fought off a man who knocked her to the ground and tried to rape her in Elmhurst last week, police said.

The victim was walking near 71st Street and 41st Avenue about 10:45 p.m. on June 11 when an unknown assailant sucker punched her, shoved her to the ground and tried to rape her, the NYPD said.

But she fought him off and the attacker, who was wearing a blue soccer jersey with a red stripe across the chest, fled, police said.

The woman was treated for minor injuries, the NYPD said.

Police described the suspect as about 17 years old, 5-foot-5, 165 pounds, with brown eyes and short black hair.
