PROSPECT HEIGHTS — Warning to waistlines: Manhattan's Doughnut Plant is setting up shop in Brooklyn this fall.
The bakery made the announcement on its Twitter page Tuesday afternoon, introducing its third New York location with the message “Hello, Brooklyn!” The new spot will open in October of this year in the triangular building on Flatbush Avenue between Bergen Street and Sixth Avenue in Prospect Heights, the post said.
Since opening in 1994 in a Lower East Side basement, Doughnut Plant has expanded to nine locations in Tokyo, another Manhattan spot in Chelsea, and inside many cafes and bakeries around the city, according to its website.
Its owner, Mark Isreal, has been wanting to come to Brooklyn “for a long time" and finally “found the right spot,” said Doughnut Plant’s creative director Jeff Magness.
“He fell in love with 245 Flatbush Ave. at Bergen, built in the 1930s,” Magness said in an email Tuesday afternoon. “He's been calling the triangular building the Flatbush Flatiron and he's looking at the buildout as a restoration project.”
The new shop will replace what was Yummy Taco, a Mexican food restaurant that closed last year.
