BROOKLYN — A straphanger was knifed in the stomach as two men tried to take his wallet aboard a Q train near Prospect Park early Tuesday, police said.

The 30-year-old victim, whose name was not released, was riding a southbound Q train approaching the Prospect Park station about 2:30 a.m. when two men in their 20s tried to mug him, an NYPD spokesman said.

The passenger refused to hand over his wallet so the duo attacked him, stabbing him in the stomach in the ensuing struggle, police said. They fled emptyhanded once the train reached the station, police said.

The victim was taken to Kings County Hospital where he was listed in stable condition, the NYPD said.

The two would-be thieves were still at large later Tuesday morning, police said.
