LOWER EAST SIDE — Residents will get the chance to weigh in on Essex Crossing's 15,000 square-foot park.
Delancey Street Associates, the team behind the development, will hold a “community visioning session” at 7:15 p.m. on May 28 at Grand Street Settlement, 80 Pitt St. The park is part of the $1.1 billion development on land formerly known as the Seward Park Urban Renewal Area.
Members of the development team will be there, including landscape architects from West 8, said spokeswoman Risa Heller. The meeting, she said, is an opportunity for the developers to get feedback from residents.
“We are looking forward to meeting with the community to hear about what they’d like to see in the park,” Heller said.
Essex Crossing will sit on nine city-owned blocks near Essex and Delancey streets that had been abandoned for decades. Plans for the development include an urban farm, an annex of the Andy Warhol museum, a new and larger Essex Market and 1,000 apartments, half of which will be designated as permanent affordable housing.
Construction is expected to begin next spring.
