CIVIC CENTER — A driver made it halfway through a security checkpoint at One Police Plaza early Friday, before being stopped by a barricade, the NYPD said.
The driver, whose name was not released, was tailgating another vehicle that had been approved to pass through the NYPD's checkpoint at Gold and Frankfort streets at about 7:05 a.m. when the second of two ground-mounted barriers rose up and caught the bottom of the vehicle, stopping it from going any further, according to police and NBC New York, which first reported the incident.
The Gold Street passageway, which runs beneath the Brooklyn Bridge and is flanked by a police kiosk, leads into the NYPD's underground parking garage.
The driver was taken into custody and was being tested for alcohol, police said. A passenger in his vehicle was not arrested.
There were no reported injuries.
