FLATIRON — The grand opening of Eataly’s Nutella Bar drew a long line of hungry New Yorkers Monday evening.
Fans from as far away as Westchester, Long Island and Queens flocked to the Italian marketplace to snag free samples of Nutella spread over Eataly's housemade bread, waiting in a line that stretched around the block.
“It’s delicious,” said 21-year-old Ivana Corrado, who came from Westchester just to visit the store. “It’s better than peanut butter. It’s been a dream of mine and it’s finally come true.”
Items on the Nutella Bar’s menu include a Nutella-stuffed croissant for $3.80, Nutella over brioche for $3.80 and a Nutella crepe for $5.80.
“The reaction is incredible,” said Dino Borri, Eataly’s brand ambassador. “We already thought of the idea years ago, but Eataly is already crowded with lines everywhere.
“But when the space opened up, it was the perfect opportunity,” he continued.
The Nutella bar opened in the former home of Eataly’s wine store, which was forced to close for six months beginning in April for breaking State Liquor Authority rules.
“When something happens, we don’t cry over it — we make something new,” Borri said.
The Nutella Bar will remain open even after the wine store returns in October, he added.
“We needed something like this,” said 20-year-old Joanna Rodriguez, who came from The Bronx for Monday's grand opening. “Who doesn’t like Nutella?”
The Nutella Bar at Eataly, 200 Fifth Ave., is open every day from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
