WASHINGTON BRIDGE — Overnight traffic between the Bronx and Washington Heights may be more sluggish than usual this week, as repairs to the Washington Bridge force the closure of two lanes of traffic on two nights.

According to fliers distributed by the Department of Transportationthe lane closings are necessary to repair joints on the bridge. The closures will take place on two nights between the hours of 11 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. — but the DOT hasn't specified which days the work will take place except to say they will happen between May 12 and 16.

The DOT did say in the fliers that the work will be coordinated to avoid conflicts with Yankees games — which will be at Yankee Stadium every night except for Wednesday and Thursday, when the Bombers will play the Mets in Queens.

DOT officials did not respond to requests for confirmation that the work will happen on Wednesday and Thursday.

The fliers warned that on each night, two lanes will be shuttered in a single direction on the six-lane bridge, which connects the Cross-Bronx Expressway with the the Trans-Manhattan Expressway and West 181st Street.

The first night will see two of the three eastbound lanes closed between 11:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. The second night will see westbound lane closures from 11 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., according to the flier.
