MANHATTAN — A city bus driver was randomly sprayed with what investigators believe to be pepper spray or Mace as he sat behind the wheel in Inwood Saturday morning, the NYPD said.

The driver, whose name was not released, had stopped at the intersection of Isham Street and Sherman Avenue about 3:50 a.m. when a man came up to the driver's open window and sprayed his eyes, police said.

The bus drove forward and the suspect ran away with his arms flailing in the air, according to surveillance footage released by police.

The bus driver was not seriously hurt, a police spokesman said, but it was not immediately clear if he required further medical attention.

The suspect, who is believed to be about 20 and 5-foot-7, was wearing a blue jacket, black jeans and white sneakers, the NYPD said.

If caught, the suspect would face a felony charge and seven years behind bars, according to the MTA.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477).
