MANHATTAN — More than 130 people were temporarily stranded in the East River train tunnel Wednesday evening when an Amtrak train stalled on the track, a fire department spokesman said.
The Northeast Regional train to Springfield, Mass. shutdown power about 7:30 p.m. due to a downed wire on the track, railroad spokeswoman Vernae Graham said.
No one was injured, according to the fire department and Graham said full service was expected to be restored by 8:30.
A diesel train was coupled with the train to pull it from the tunnel, she said.
The outage caused residual delays on the LIRR, a spokeswoman said.
