FAR ROCKAWAY — Two 4-year-old siblings were killed in a fire that engulfed their two-story home late Saturday night in an Easter tragedy, officials said.
Three others, an adult man, 63, and woman, 55, as well as the boy's twin sister, were rescued from the home and recovering Sunday morning and in stable condition, the NYPD said.
Jai'Launi and his half-sister Aniya Tinglin, were in the care of relatives when the fire broke out at 11:51 p.m., according to reports. Firefighters rushed the children out of 10-31 Bay 30th St. on their shoulders, but a neighbor who witnessed the rescue said it appeared clear they were not going to survive, the NY Daily News reported.
"They took (the kids) out and started doing CPR. One was wearing what looked like a nightgown," neighbor Calmen Masri told the News. "I had to look away," she said.
Jai'Launi and Aniya were rushed to St. John's Hospital along with the third girl, but did not survive.
The adults, who were identified as a grandfather and an aunt, were watching the children and didn't know how the fire started, relatives told the News.
An investigation is ongoing, police said.
