RED HOOK — The Van Brunt Street building that houses the Red Hook Bait and Tackle, a well-known and beloved local bar, is for sale, according to real estate brokers.

The building at 320 Van Brunt St. is “an interesting property,” said Matthew Rosenzweig, a real estate agent with Marcus & Millichap. “That corridor is really rapidly progressing,” he said.

Rosenzweig and Nowak declined to comment on the bar’s future at the location but said they had gotten a “very strong reception” for the building. The bar has a five-year lease at the property.

Bar owners were not available to comment.

In addition to the bar, the building houses two apartments that both need to be renovated, according to Rosenweig and Jakub Nowak, another agent with the company.

The 3,975-square-foot building went on the market two weeks ago with a list price of $1.2 million.

The three-story building was constructed in 1925 with a lot size of 2,250 square-feet, according to StreetEasy.

A 600-square-foot extension behind the building is also included in the price, Nowak said.

The Red Hook Bait and Tackle opened in 2004. Its unusual name comes from a social club and bait shop that used to be located at the same address.

“It was cheaper and easier to keep the existing sign, so the place became the Bait and Tackle,” according to the bar’s website.

“From that the theme was born.”
