QUEENS — An off-duty NYPD crossing guard was charged with leaving the scene of an accident after she backed into a pedestrian in Jamaica and fled, police said.
Carmen Malik, 52, hit a 44-year-old woman, who was crossing 165th Street, near Jamaica Avenue, as she was backing her car up around 1:20 p.m. Sunday, the NYPD said.
Malik returned to the scene about an hour later, after she was called by authorities who managed to track her down via her plate number, police said.
The NYPD said that the victim refused medical attention.
Malik was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and unsafe backing of a vehicle, authorities said.
According to the Queens District Attorney's office, Malik was given a desk appearance ticket and is scheduled to be arraigned on May 2.
