WEST VILLAGE — A man and his father were robbed of $1400 and jewelry in their West Tenth Street apartment after a gunman followed the younger man home, police said.

The 31-year-old man was heading into his West 10th Street apartment building about 1:10 a.m. on Feb. 12 when he was followed by the suspect, who was wearing a ski mask and dress shoes, police said.

The suspect then pulled out a gun and bashed the resident in the back of the head, police said, before jamming the weapon into the victim's back, marching him toward his apartment and forcing him to open the door.

"Give me the money and the jewelry," the gunman told the victims, before hitting the man's 62-year-old father in the head with the gun, police said.

A 47-year-old woman was asleep in the apartment and was not harmed, police said.

The men handed over a watch and two diamond rings, plus $1,400 in cash, police said. The gunman fled the scene and the victims were taken to a local hospital, police said.

Police described the suspect as a 25-year-old man, approximately 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds, with long curly black hair. He was last seen wearing dress shoes, black pants, black gloves, a black ski cap, a black ski mask and a black three-quarter-length coat, police said.
