UPPER WEST SIDE — Stray voltage on a section of West 93rd Street forced emergency crews to close the stretch Monday due to reports of electrified objects in the area, authorities said.
Overnight crews from Con Edison saw signs of stray voltage on the block between West End Avenue and Riverside Drive, deploying a crew to the scene Monday, said Con Ed spokesman Allan Drury.
"We have reports of energized objects near 317 West 93rd Street," said Drury, who advised people to stay away from the cordoned-off area.
Signs and caution tape on the block advised people to stay away from metal tree planters, which could carry an electrical current. There were no reports of injuries or shocks, Drury said.
Residents who must access the street should stay away from the area in the middle of the block where work is happening, he added.
The spokesman could not say when the crews would complete their work and noted they would be there "until they find the problem."
