QUEENS — Terminal C at LaGuardia Airport was partially evacuated late Tuesday morning after baggage handlers spotted smoke coming out of a passenger’s luggage, the Port Authority Police Department said.

The workers noticed smoke coming from the bag at 11:50 a.m. as it sat on the loading ramp for a plane bound for Richmond, Va., the PAPD said.

The luggage was immediately removed from the ramp, and the plane was given the go-ahead to take off, officials added.

The terminal was partially evacuated while PAPD’s bomb squad and the NYPD investigated.

"We got off the plane, and they just told us to leave," said Becky Wood, who flew in this morning from Greensboro, N.C. "We couldn't get our carry-ons. They just told us, 'Follow the guy in the red coat.'"
