SOHO — A small fire broke out at SoHo's Delicatessen Friday, forcing the restaurant to shut down in the middle of the lunch rush, officials said.

The fire started at the upscale eatery at 54 Prince St. near Lafayette Street about 11:50 a.m., an FDNY spokesman and witnesses said. Firefighters brought the flames under control less than 20 minutes later, the spokesman said.

Even once the fire was out, the restaurant remained closed, disappointing customers who were hoping to dine on its comfort food specialties.

Asked when Delicatessen would reopen, an employee said, "We're not sure, we're still cleaning everything up."

It was not immediately clear where in the restaurant the fire started.
