CROWN HEIGHTS — A man who performed in New York's Vogue dance community was stabbed to death inside his St. Johns Place home Thursday afternoon, police and relatives said.
Terrell Anderson, 35, was found with a stab wound to the head inside 981 St. Johns Place near Brooklyn Avenue at about 2:30 p.m., the NYPD said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His shocked friend, Mark Leary, said Anderson was well-known as Terrell Ebony at competitions known as balls, in which dancers, who sometimes dress in drag, perform and strike poses, as depicted in the documentary "Paris Is Burning."
"He was a great friend, a mentor, a confidant," Leary said, adding that Anderson was part of the dance group called the House of Ebony. "He was considered a legend.”
No arrests have been made in connection to the stabbing, police said Friday morning. The incident is not currently being investigated as a hate crime, according to the NYPD.
Anderson was known on his block for being friendly, and was often seen walking his Shih Tzu, Sebastian.
Leary said his friend had no known enemies.
“I want justice for my [Terrell]," he said.
