NEW YORK CITY — School may be in session, but alternate side parking will be suspended through Thursday, city officials said.

Parking meters will remain in effect.

The city decided at noon Wednesday to suspend street cleaning parking regulations on Thursday to ease plowing the foot of snow dumped throughout the city by the storm Tuesday, officials said.

Queens was hit with most of the flakes, topping out at 12 inches in Sunnyside, according to the National Weather Service. Snow accumulation reached 11 inches in Central Park, 1 foot in Throngs Neck and 10 inches in Sheepshead Bay, a NWS spokesman said.

Skies were clear Wednesday morning but temperatures were expected to remain in the teens all day before dropping to 7 degrees at sundown.
