PARK SLOPE — Hot chocolate spiked with peppermint schnapps and brownie sundaes drizzled with Grand Marnier could soon be on the menu at The Chocolate Room.

The dessert cafe is applying for a full liquor license so it can spice up its menu with hard alcohol, but it won't be turning into a full-fledged bar, said co-owner Naomi Josepher.

"We're very particular about our menu and we don’t want to change what's working," Josepher said. "We wanted to add a little spark to the menu. There are endless flavor combinations of alcohol and chocolate."

The Chocolate Room already serves beer and wine, but if it got a full liquor license it would add beverages such as Bailey's Irish Cream, a tried and true complement to chocolate, Josepher said. She's also considering serving chocolate martinis and chocolate Bellini cocktails, which are made with sparkling wine.

Right now Josepher is only planning to add liquor to The Chocolate Room's Park Slope location, not its Cobble Hill outpost.

The hard booze isn't the only change afoot at The Chocolate Room. After 10 years at 86 Fifth Ave., the sweets shop is moving down the street to 51 Fifth Ave., near Bergen Street. The new location is under renovation and Josepher is hoping to open it in early spring.

The 86 Fifth Ave. location is scheduled to close Jan. 26, but chocolate lovers won't be entirely deprived while they await the opening of the new location. The Chocolate Room will be opening a pop-up retail shop for chocolates and baked goods at 82 Fifth Ave. right after its original location closes. The two-month lease will allow The Chocolate Room to keep serving customers through the busy Valentine's Day season, Josepher said.

The Community Board 6 permits and licenses committee is scheduled to review The Chocolate Room's liquor license application at its Jan. 27 meeting.
