BROOKLYN — A Sunset Park middle school was on lockdown for 50 minutes after a boy brought a pellet gun to class Thursday, police said.

Another student spotted the 15-year-old boy with the orange-tipped weapon inside I.S. 220 John J. Pershing, 4812 Ninth Ave., and notified staff who called police about 11:50 a.m., an NYPD spokesman said.

Police canvassed the school and found the boy, whose identity was not immediately released, sitting in class with the gun in his bag, the spokesman said.

The boy didn't injure or threaten anyone with the weapon and wasn't going to face any charges, the NYPD said.

The school, which enrolls more than 1,400 students, will determine if any disciplinary actions will be taken against the boy, police said.

A Department of Education spokeswoman initially said the boy's weapon was a BB gun, but an NYPD spokesman clarified that it was a pellet gun.
